Game Overview

Wordle is a web-based word puzzle game that surged in popularity in late 2021 and early 2022. Created by Josh Wardle, a software engineer, it was originally a gift for his partner who enjoys word games. Its straightforward mechanics and daily challenge have made it a global phenomenon.

Players get six attempts to guess a hidden five-letter word. After each guess, letters are highlighted: green for correct letters in the right spot, yellow for correct letters in the wrong spot, and gray for letters not in the word. This color-coded feedback echoes games like Mastermind but focuses on words.

The game’s daily format—offering just one puzzle per day—builds anticipation and connects players worldwide as they tackle the same word. Sharing results via colored grids on social media has fueled its viral spread without spoiling the answer.

With its clean design, no ads, and free access, Wordle stands out. It has spawned many variants, including a Spanish version by Colombian developer @danielfrg, expanding its reach across languages.

Beyond a game, Wordle is a daily ritual that tests vocabulary and logic, uniting players through the thrill of wordplay.

How to Play Wordle

1. Type a five-letter word and submit it. 2. Check the feedback: green means the letter is correct and in place, yellow means it’s in the word but misplaced, gray means it’s not in the word. 3. Adjust your next guess based on this. 4. Continue until you guess the word or use all six tries.

Game Controls

Use the keyboard to type words and press Enter to submit.

Tips and Tricks

Begin with words rich in vowels (A, E, O) and common consonants (R, S, T, L, N), like 'arise' or 'stone'. Use feedback wisely: lock in green letters, reposition yellow ones, and rule out gray ones. Aim to narrow down letters in the first few guesses. Watch for possible repeated letters.
